Can I change the translation style on an already dubbed video?
Short answer: no, you can't swap the Translation Style on a dub once it's been created. The Translation Style you pick in the dub creation modal is locked in for that dub. But there's a lot you can change after the fact — here's what works.
What's locked once a dub is created
When you start a dub, you choose:
- A source language
- One or more target languages
- A Translation Style for each target language (optional)
The Translation Style choice is stored on the dub and can't be switched to a different style later. There's no "change style" button in the dub view, and the metadata card doesn't show which style was used.
What you can change after the dub is finished
1. Edit individual segments in the Advanced Editor
Open the dub and switch to the Advanced Editor. For each sequence you can edit:
- Source text — fix a transcription mistake. When you save, the translation is regenerated automatically (paraphrase allowed).
- Target text — rewrite the translation directly. The voice is re-synthesized on your exact wording — no further translation runs.
- Speaker — fix a speaker assignment the diarizer got wrong.
After your edits, click Regenerate Video to render the updated dub.
2. Update the Translation Style itself
If you go to Translation Style in the sidebar and edit the style your dub used (don't-translate words, custom translations, pronunciations, tone, formality, writing style), those changes do not automatically re-apply to the existing dub.
But: any segment you re-sync from that point on (by editing the source text in the Advanced Editor and saving) will use the updated style. So you can roll out a small style fix to specific segments — fix one term in the style, then trigger a re-sync on the affected sequences from the editor.
There's currently no one-click "re-translate the whole dub with the updated style". Plan out your Translation Style before dubbing long-form content.
When to redo the dub instead
It's faster to delete and re-upload when:
- You want to test a fundamentally different Translation Style on the same content (different tone, different formality, different brand voice).
- More than a handful of segments would need style-driven fixes.
- The source language was set wrong and the whole transcript is off.
The per-minute charge applies again on a fresh dub.
